Weekend Moderation – The Key To Success

Today we are talking about M’s…no we’re not talking about making millions, and we aren’t talking about the iconic candy M & M’s, but we are talking about something that’s just as influential to your success & happiness – MODERATION. Specifically weekend moderation.

If you’re like me, you’re probably pretty disciplined Monday-Friday afternoon, but then kinda let go on the weekends. Now it’s important to note, at Bluprint Fitness, we believe balance is key to being happy. But we also understand that moderation is the bridge between happiness and health & fitness success.

So how do we practice weekend moderation that keeps us on track with our health & fitness goals, but also allows us to have fun?

Tip 1: Drink 1-2 Less Alcoholic Beverages Each Week

While alcohol can bring some of the most fun times, you know how the saying goes – “too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.” Studies show that excessive drinks can affect your fitness up to 5 days after consumption – that’s almost the entire week! Studies also show that sleeping following excessive drinks drastically decreases the amount of REM sleep you get, which is where your body recovers best. 

So if you want to feel good and reap the benefits of all the hard work you put into the gym and your nutrition, focusing on moderation when it comes to alcohol can be your best friend. And while drinking 1-2 less drinks each week may seem like a small task, you’ll be surprised how much of an impact this will have on your health & fitness goals long-term. Step 1 to creating a healthier relationship with alcohol is to figure out your normal weekly consumption and go from there.

Tip 2: Self-Care Sundays

I can’t express enough how rewarding dedicating your Sunday to self-care can be. Not only does this serve as a transition from the weekend back into the work week, it can improve your mental and physical health. By definition, self-care Sunday involves taking care of yourself. That may mean going for a relaxing walk, getting a massage, or even just reading a book in your favorite spot. Whatever it is, make it a routine you enjoy and make it something that benefits both your mental and your physical state.
