Now statistics are not on our side when it comes to sticking with New Year’s resolutions.
One 2021 study showed that of those that made a resolution in 2020, only 35% of people kept all their resolutions, only 49% of people kept some of their resolutions, and 16% failed at keeping any of their resolutions.
But you’re going to be on the good side of this upcoming year’s statistics because you’ll use the tools necessary to get on track, stay on track, and reach your goals.
So how do we bulletproof the plan?
Step 1: Pick The Goals You Want To Accomplish The Most
All too often we fail at reaching our goals because we pick too many to accomplish in a year’s span. By deciding which goals you want the most, you’ll be able to focus your efforts in a productive way that won’t overwhelm your time. Pick 1-3 big goals to accomplish this year to start your bulletproof New Year’s resolution plan.
Step 2: Make Action Steps To Reach Those Goals
There’s a well known quote that says “a goal without a plan is just a wish”. And truth is, there are steps that have to be taken to reach any individual goal. Once you’ve decided what your goals are, write down what action steps you need to complete to get to that goal. This will allow you to plan out how to tackle the task of getting to the finish line.
Step 3: Establish Your Accountability
In order to complete our action steps and reach our goals, we must be held accountable for our actions. There are three main ways this happens: 1) self-accountability (often the hardest), 2) peer accountability (with fitness this can be thought of as a training buddy who helps influence your healthy habits), and 3) coach accountability (having someone whose main goal is to get you to the results you want). Regardless of where it comes from, increase your chances of success by using the accountability tools that work best for you!
