Navigating The Winter Blues

While the Winter season brings so many good things like holidays and get togethers, it can also bring the Winter Blues ?.

You know what I’m talking about:

Daylight gets shorter, it gets harder to get out of bed on time in the morning, and you sometimes have a feeling that can only be described as BLAH.

Most of us (including myself), aren’t immune to this feeling. But I have come up with some tips and tricks on navigating the Winter blues while staying on track with your health & fitness goals so when beach season arrives, you are ready to rock.

Number 1: Adopt the mentality of discipline over motivation.

Let’s face it, motivation is an up and down roller coaster when it comes to getting your workouts in. By adopting the mentality of discipline over motivation, you’ll continue to show up for yourself on a regular basis. Now this isn’t an easy thing to stick to, but here me out on how to start to build this mentality. Make a list of excuses you might normally have, and make another list of the challenges to each one of those excuses.

For Example: the excuse is saying “I’m too tired to workout”. The challenge to this excuse could be – “regular exercise increases my energy level, so I’m going to show up for this workout today.

Each time one of those excuses pops up in your head, look at your list of challenging statements and get to work.

Number 2: Find An Accountability Partner

This can be in the form of a friend or an acquaintance at your gym. This is about finding someone you can coordinate with to maintain a consistent workout schedule during the Winter months. Morning wake-up text, motivational memes, and friendly competition are just a few things you and your accountability partner can do to help each other stay on track.

Number 3: Focus On Progress Not Perfection

One of the most powerful things you can do during the Winter season is focus on progress, not perfection. It’s about making a little better decisions this year than we did last. It’s about finding a balance of fun with some realistic boundaries. And it’s about being proud of the hard work you’ve put in to reach your past, current, and future goals.

At Bluprint Fitness, we help busy professionals build the body and lifestyle they’re proud of year round.

And part of this process is figuring out how to navigate real life circumstances that try to throw us off track.

So if you, or anyone you know wants to get results and have fun doing it, fill out our online forms HERE and we’ll help guide you towards your best self.

Hope everyone is having a great week, and go WIN THE DAY.
