The Vegan vs. The Meat Eater

Since the beginning of time, we’ve been debating what’s better for your health – a Vegan diet or one that includes meat.

Now chances are, you feel pretty strongly about your food choices – because those choices do help define who you are as a person. But the answer to the vegan vs meat eater debate isn’t so black & white.

Fact is, you can be a healthy Vegan or an unhealthy Vegan. You can be a healthy meat eater or an unhealthy meat eater.

So instead of debating the differences, and the pros & cons of each, let’s talk about the fundamentals of being a healthy vegan or a meat eater.

#1 Quality Food Sources

There’s a HUGE difference between a McDonald’s hamburger and a grass fed steak. There’s also a HUGE difference between a bag of Doritos and a bowl of lentil soup. I’m not saying don’t ever eat those examples, but what I am saying is that quality matters. The higher the quality, the better the results.

#2 Protein

EVERY cell in your body contains protein. It’s often referred to as the “building blocks” of the human body. You need protein for growth, maintenance, repair, and energy. And if you’re going to reach your health & fitness goals – you better be getting enough protein to support your effort. If you are a meat eater, quality meats are a great source. If you are a vegan, high protein unprocessed foods like lentils, edamame, and quinoa will get you started.

#3 Eat For Your Goals

Doesn’t matter if you live a paleo, vegan, intermittent fasting, Adkins, or eat whatever the hell you want lifestyle…if you want to reach your goals, your consumption should match that. Find a caloric intake that gives you energy, helps your body perform, improves your recovery, and provides nourishment. This usually DOES NOT include a low calorie diet and I’m gonna leave it at that.
