I think we can all agree that this has been quite a year…unforgettable for many reasons. It is safe to say, I will walk away from 2020 with a completely different mindset and outlook on life. Here are my top 3 takeaways from 2020:
1. SLOW down
Kind of scary that it took quarantining through a pandemic for me to slow down. I was in such a groove of working and fitnessing that I was losing sight of other important parts of my life that needed some attention. I have a pretty addictive personality and am good at putting my head down and getting into a super focused state of mind. That’s great and all, but I do believe there is more to life, the little things, the fun stuff that was being left behind (aka less of a priority) because there was not enough headspace for it. Slowing down actually helped me realize what I was missing and allowed for a reevaluation of all things life: family, work, and fitness.
2. DELEGATE more
I am pretty stubborn and like to do everything myself…crazy that I used to clean the whole gym myself and it took a pandemic for me to wake up and NEED to ask for help. Help from coaches, and help from athletes to keep us all safe. I thought Bluprint was clean before (and we were) but now we are pandemic sparkling clean with the help of all my buddies. Shout out to everyone who is doing their part to keep the BluCru healthy and safe. I am so grateful that I don’t have to do it alone. Hopefully this carries over into other parts of life and work and I can be more comfortable asking for help when I need it.
3. PATIENCE is truly a virtue
We have all heard it before…but truer words have never been spoken. This about sums up my stream of thought when it came to our current pandemic situation:
- When it first started, “Yes absolutely we can close down for a couple weeks”
- Month two, “We can hang on until summer when things can return back to normal”
- Month four, “Just get us to 2021”
- Now, “Once we all have the vaccine by the end of 2021, maybe then I will want to take my mask off and stop cleaning my groceries”
Ok soooo yeah…what a rollercoaster of emotions. Will we even remember what “normal” is when it is supposedly safe to return to it? Probably not. Things at Bluprint have shifted so much since the start of the pandemic that they are starting to feel, well, normal…the new normal. So here we are, waiting out another wave and honestly having no expectations because there are none to have. We are riding the wave and switching gears when we need to so we can continue to grow and adapt. That’s what it’s all about.
Nothing that is easy is worth having.
For one of the most impatient people on the face of the earth, this year has tested me in so many ways. I will leave 2020 with a smidge more patience than when I came into it, that I can say with 100% confidence.
