Biography

How long have you been part of the BluCru?

Since March 2023

What is your biggest accomplishment at Bluprint?

In general, my technique across barbell and gymnastic movements has markedly improved, most notably increasing my movement efficiency and volume capacity. One specific accomplishment has been my ability to do 20-25ft+ handstand walks. I have been practicing handstand walks for years and just couldn’t get the hang of it. While my form still needs further refining, I’m incredibly proud that I can now reliably walk on my hands for distance.

What is your favorite thing to do at Bluprint?

I always enjoy when we have long chipper workouts. The Saturday partner workouts are also a weekly highlight.

What keeps you coming back to Bluprint?

The sense of community as well as the challenging yet methodical programming. I appreciate that regular strength cycles and benchmark testing are consistently programmed so that we can frequently assess our gains and areas for improvement.

What would you tell someone considering joining?

Yes, it’s going to be hard. You’re going to feel uncomfortable. You’re going to be frustrated when you see others doing barbell and gymnastic movements that you feel your body just wasn’t meant to perform. These are all feelings that I had when I started CrossFit 9 years ago. But no matter how difficult or grueling a workout may feel, it will always end, and you’ll be stronger for finishing.

The CrossFit definition of strength is “the productive application of force,” meaning that when you lift a weight that you’ve never lifted before or perform a movement at a higher rep volume than in the past, you’re stronger as a result. Consistency is key. Show up, do the work, be patient, and be proud of all your hard work.

What do you do for fun?

As an English teacher, I do a lot of reading (narrative fiction, poetry, history, and political theory). I’m also a fan of horror movies, so at least once a month I go to the cinema to see a new horror flick. Since moving to Chicago, I also enjoy making frequent visits to the MCA and the Chicago Cultural Center.

What’s your favorite food?

Pizza 🍕
